I’m a firm believer that you always need to be measuring and welcome this New Google SEO & Site Metrics Tool that helps site owners to get an overall picture of their SEO efforts & overall site performance.
While it is still in the beta mode and a few bugs will need to be worked out, it is definitely another useful tool in optimizing your web presence.
Since Google is the place we all go for information, and I expect that that they have access to almost everything online, it was not a surprising move that they launched this tool.
I have always told my clients that Google rules the online world for most of their prospective clients so you always want to be sure to use the tools, programs and services they provide. Case in point, this new SEO & Site Metric tool. Since it was developed by “GOOGLE” itself, I would suggest that it is a very useful tool and some may say, it’s a no-brainer that you should give it a try. Here’s how it works.
Once you enter the URL of your page, it will rate the website for the following metrics.
- Performance
- Progressive Web App
- Accessibility
- Best Practices
- SEO
Here’s how the reports look like:
The new SEO score gives you information about the page crawlability, but the overall SEO score is based on just 10 VERY BASIC On-Page elements, which can make it easier to have a higher score, if you make the suggested changes.
Many would argue that when GOOGLE itself says that my site is doing good on the SEO part, why would I need any assistance with my SEO and keywords in particular? The difference is that this new tool is giving you the basics, not the information about your competition, how you show up online, and how you can appeal to your prospective clients on a personal level.
I look forward to watching this tool develop, but for now keep in mind that while a site can score 100% on SEO web.dev, it may still rank on the 10th page of the Google. Because ranking for the RIGHT keywords and “money” phrases is the main purpose of SEO.
