Should you update your headshot?
For some people, including myself, the idea of getting a new headshot taken was daunting. I found all kinds of reasons why I should wait, including a bout with cancer treatment that resulted in getting to see my hair at all lengths. (Not the best process to figure out what your favorite length is, but useful nonetheless).
But even with that, I thought if I waited a little longer, I would be a little thinner, or have better coloring, or.. well you name it, I came up with the excuses.
What finally made me decide to get a new headshot was that I am about to become a first time author and I wanted a more up to date photo of me to represent who I am at the point of writing the book(s). (I’m actually part of #Voicesofthe21stCentury and am the lead author in my personal collaborative book called The Silver Lining of Cancer.)
As I begin to replace my old headshot with my new headshot, I am feeling a sense of accomplishment. I have come a long way from who I was when the first picture was taken, and I am happy to be at this part of my life. And I’m feeling pretty good about life in general.
Are you procrastinating on getting a new headshot done? Take the leap and do it soon, especially when you are on social media and interacting with prospective clients and your colleagues, as you want to avoid the “you look different than your profile picture.” 🙂
Don’t hide in the past, look to the future.
A huge shout out to Kristy Powers for getting it just right!
